Northwoods Bass Fishing Report – Mid July to Early August, 2025
Largemouth bass are the best game in town right now. If you are not targeting them and instead beating yourselves up for other species in this heat, you should reconsider.
I made a promise to myself in early July that most of my summer fishing availability would be dedicated to largemouths. With the recent heat waves, warm water temperatures, and algae blooms starting, I made the right choice. Targeting largemouths daily is what I have been doing since mid July.
I recently wrapped up nearly 2 weeks on the water. Daily patterns have been predictable and consistent.
To keep this report simple, I've been waking up by 430 am most days, and on the water preferably by 6, and by no later than 7. On the lakes I know very well, bite windows and feeding have occurred immediately.... On other mornings not starting till 8 or 9 or until the fish are found.
Good morning fishing has then lasted till 10-11am, and most days totally done at noon-1. Late afternoons and evenings have been noticeably worse.
