Proven Presentations Only at Ice Out
Depending on where you live, ice out could either be nearing or is a ways away. In midst of fake spring right now, it's coming on quickly down here where my home office overlooks the pond "Bass Factory". Its shores are now opening and the ice cover is rapidly greying.
Like anywhere in the ice belt this scenario plays out - the moment it goes the fishery turns on like a light switch. The script from winter to spring flips so quickly that largemouths have no time to delay. The feed is on no matter the water temperature - providing these fish are moving into their early season spots.
The challenge here is that largemouths will not wait. And our challenge lies in timing and the ability to go.
I wait eagerly and anxiously all year for the next ice-out fishing opportunities. Some years the timing works and I hit everywhere I need to go perfectly (2022-23-24 perfect examples), while other years it doesn't (2025). This year with a 3 month old boy in the house and me being his full time babysitter, ice out fishing won't be happening unless I go hit local ponds.
But I can still reminisce and day-dream on the past experiences.
