We just completed two weeks worth of smallmouth trips. I’m tired of hot weather, cold weather, poor weather, cold fronts, quitters, and uncooperative fish. In the last week, I also had 1 canceled trip, 1 no-show, and two other days in which anglers gave up. 4 days of lost work – this cannot happen
It’s the season of brown bass everyone, and hopefully you shall be the recipient of many timely, relevant, and frequent fishing reports throughout 2025. Even though my year is only 3.5 days old, it has been excellent despite the very small sampling size. The sun and I did plenty of damage to the fisheries
Thank you everyone for your recent inquiries and trip reservations. Before my desk job gets busier this winter, I wanted to post an itinerary of what this upcoming 2025 fishing season could look like from the perspective from my boat…. and as a guide for you as you consider which month(s) to fish and
Since my last report and newsletter from second week of October, the lakes were quickly finishing up with turnover then. That’s been long done, and now the bass are wintering. Whatever fish you catch from now to first ice will be in deep water and associating to some type of contour and bottom structure.
Fall patterns and locational shifts are now underway. Lakes that were in the 58 to 61 degree range during my check-in early last week are now anywhere in the low 50’s to 58 degree range. The good news, turnover doesn’t occur on every water body, therefore you’ve got options to fish ahead of it
The fishing is HOT as of late. So hot (aside from 70’s and 80’s air temps) that from Tuesday of last week when it hit 86 in the afternoon thru Sunday the 22nd when it dropped to 55, the boat captured 5 new customer PB’s and 17 fish were 20 inches and greater. In
My favorite fishing partner (Mrs. Ragas) and I just concluded annual vacation week. A lot of the same patterns we experienced and observed from the other week will carry over again into this week, as it appears warm weather is here to stay for another while.
Since I fished last week in between my boat and cabin projects, I figured to check in with a mini mid-month report. A lot of patterns from July have carried over into August month, and while we will still have some lingering heat this week and next I’d expect some good end of summer
This report is long overdue and summarizes the fishing from mid July – to present. Summer peak has come and is now deeply established, bass are feeding heavily, and on some days the dog days will necessitate fishing early and late.
