What We’re Throwing in November
Catching smallmouths into November is a blessing, and if you are of the hearty and strong-willed angler types out there, then this program guide for this month will be applicable to you.
Even though I had to stop fishing by the 3rd week of October, I am still able to coach anglers and readers from my home office. Everything showcased in this month’s tackle box has been proven to work, has gotten results, and has an excellent track record for late autumn smallmouth fishing.
To recap this fall, up to this point, it has been another unusually warm, gradual, and inconsistent season. Since the second half of October, I had been waiting for a massive cold blast to either end the year early for everyone, or to trigger a year-end binge. So far, we’ve gotten nothing as water temperatures are holding steady in the 45-to-49-degree range. This is the prime late fall temp range as smallmouths will still be motivated to feed and able to strike artificial lures to some degree (IMO – 44 to 48 is peak fall if you seek wintering / pre-wintering fish atop deep structures).
