Northwoods Bass Fishing Report – Early May 2026
Even though I won't have time to guide anglers in 2026, I will still have some time to make some casts, go fishing, and produce fishing reports every few weeks. I consider this to be a blessing, and to do this my most purposeful and meaningful fishing work.
I just got back from opener weekend. And I got to fish for the first time in 7 months since child #1 was birthed. I didn't think I'd get this opportunity but when you can go then you go!
It was a very short and quick weekend, but we made time for Saturday (3 hours) and again Sunday (4.5 hours). I caught smallmouths, largemouths, walleyes, and a muskie. It was a sufficient result, and excellent considering the low standards I gave myself entering this one, and unsure whether I'd get the opportunity to go fishing. Altogether I caught approximately 30 fish over those 7.5 hours. More than enough to write home about.
2026 opener weekend was a hit or a miss thanks to very cold overnight low on Friday (25 degrees), and that both days featured a mini coldfront and drastic wind shift in the afternoons which shut down the bites... and also depending on whom you talked to and what their lake sel
