Smallmouth Grind-Outs
There’s a great chance that every fishing guide out there has a collection of skilled anglers as their customer base and they’ll drop everything they’re doing to go fishing with them again. These are the anglers whom a guide can bring to any difficulty of lake out there, fish under any type of condition, and yet always succeed on trip day no matter where and when they go whether the bite is good or bad. Not everyone is skilled in this capacity. I have a select few whom I make myself available for. They are who make my job fun.
One of them is Kevin Bohnney. And we memorably worked extremely hard for our smallmouths on the last trip-day we did back in June 2024.
Trip day with Kevin was going to be anything but easy. Warm heat blowing in from the southwest. 20 to 30 mph wind gusts. A warm front. And changing atmosphere and increasing barometric pressure. None of this is ideal. Above the surface we knew it’d be a junk day if we made it be.
But when you’ve got a repeat guest whom you could bring to any lake under any condition and still succeed, all concerns quickly go away.
